[Sweat beaded on his forehead, and dripped down David's nose. He ignored it, completely focused on his practice - the flowing movements and the thoughts he let buble behind them.
Dominick had turned out to be a very good assistant indeed. The office was sorted and organized in no time at all, with a new system for incoming reports and information. Though he should remind Ethan he needed a weekly summary report of information he gathered, as well as.
These were the kinds of things he thought about while trying to reach that calm center people told him had to exist. That calm center he at least managed to pretend was there when he fought.
It had been six months since he fought even remotely in public. A few more since he'd trained. But it was good to use the Spade training rooms every once in a while - when time and daylight granted him the gift.
Nice to remind the Castle he was still King - and he would be for a while.]

He wasn't necessarily pleased, but neither was he angry.]
You are very good at what you do, hm?

Zoe would have probably had to have this conversation eventually, regardless.]
Yes, my lord. I like to think so.

[So very much faith. He's letting her off on this, after all. There was only so much leeway.
And this only existed because he never set bans on Athena in the first place.]

[Which wasn't cockiness, really. It was just truth, somewhat blurted out after expecting...some sort of other reaction. Some anger, at least, even if it had been of the cool and calm sort.
Zoe hadn't really expected it to matter, after all, that she'd promised to help Athena before she'd even been a Spade. That was really just a technicality.]

And often realistic. Do not demand the impossible, mm?]
Then there's little to worry about at the moment.
[His smile was all charm, with a steely glint underneath. Just don't do it again, his eyes seemed to say.]

No, my lord, there isn't. Should I leave you to finish your training?
[And Zoe will take this as her cue to put on a bright, sweet smile, even if she's still unsure about things just now. She's good at manufacturing those when necessary. It's the bread and butter of the Hearts.]
Ack, where did I lose these notifs to, I'm sorry ;;
[And reminding him that, even with a history in the Hearts she was a Spade now. And he should be keeping a much closer eye on her, it would seem.]
It's all cool. <3
[It had gone well enough, she thought as she slipped out of the training room, though she also thought - no, knew - that she was going to be more more careful in the future. The stress of the last few weeks wasn't something worth repeating for just any reason.]
