He'd brought the left over pumpkins to the club kitchen, and had told a few of their friends about the challenge. It was a pumpkin pie vs pumpkin flan cook off, between Zoe and Juan Pedro.

They would hold the 'challenge' after dinner, in the mess hall, where they could cook and have people judge which dessert was better.

He had to admit, he was pretty excited about this, pumpkin pie had never been something his family was into, it wasn't a traditional spanish dish, and just not suited to their tastes. But flan, now THAT was something they could stand behind.

He wasn't as good as his mother at cooking, but he could hold his own, and he wasn't about to take this little friendly challenge lying down. So he started whisking cream and sugar, beating them together into a creamy consistency, glancing over to Zoe's half of the counter to see what she was doing.

[This is a JP/Zoe friendly challenge but friends and family are more than welcome to tag in, talk to them during the preparation, and test both dishes and give their votes as to which they like best.]

"I hope so too." While they talked, he squinted at her, listening to her conversation with her brother "Hey, maybe he should not be allowed to vote. He doesn't even like sweet things, and he may only vote for you because he is your brother..."

She arched an eyebrow at him and nodded to the crowd, which included a large number of JP's friends. "And they're not going to vote for you because you're their friend?" She pointed out. "Pretty much everyone in this room is already biased, JP."

He glanced at the 'panel' and then chuckled at her "I guess you are right, is this going to be a popularity contest for us, rather than dessert you think?"

"At least partly, I suspect. Besides that...it's dessert." She shrugs. "Everyone has their favorites. Flan, pie, cookies, muffins."

He smiled "Yes this is true. At least it was a good reason to make our own favorites for our friends and our family."

"That's true." Her lips twitch as she smooths out the pumpkin custard in the pie crust. "Though as a general rule, I much prefer cookies and cake myself. There's just something about pumpkin pie and fresh whipped cream."

"You will have to explain to me what this something is, I do not understand the appeal" he chuckled, shaking his head, as he pushed slid the baking sheets of water and ramekins into the oven, setting the timer for 40 minutes.

"There, now it is just a matter of waiting." And then frowns "But I may have made a mistake, these will not be ready for a few hours, after they are out of the oven."

"Oh, I don't think either one us is going to be swayed from one side to the other." Not likely, really. Favorite foods were firmly entrenched, and she'd grown up on more western things.

She raises an eyebrow at him and grins. "The pie needs to cool for an hour after it's done. We might lose half the panel."

He looked at the crowd and noticed not just adults but young people too. He had to grin, as he walked over to her and confided in her ear "This may be time to start a party? It's late enough, I could go bring my music. Or we could play social games. Or dancing" He smiled widely at the last bit.

He shrugged, what do you think?

"Music might work for now." She tilts her head consideringly as she sets her own timer, for forty-five minutes. "And then if people want to dance, they can dance."

"Good, I will go get some." He attempts to recruit Hadyn, as he starts walking from the kitchen, grinning back at her "Keep them busy!" A quick wave of his hand "The dishes?"

She winks at him. "I'll keep them occupied," she says. If not with dishes, then...something.

She was pretty good at thinking on her feet.
