[OTA] A Sudden Bold and Unexpected Question

When King Theo had called her to his office, she had gone in fully anticipating he was going to tell her he was making her Head of Security at last. Which he did.

What she wasn't expecting was for him to offer the position of Queen. She'd been hesitant, at first, but as he explained his expectations and hopes for her and the rest of the Suit, she found herself feeling more comfortable as she recognized that they were the same. At the end, she'd accepted, and taken her leave to go get things in order in her office. Eventually, though, it properly sank in exactly what she'd committed to, and while she didn't regret it, she certainly needed a little bit of liquid courage to deal with the news.

Which is why, late in the evening, the new Queen of Hearts will make her way down to the Four Suits to indulge in a (surely well-deserved) drink.

You have to get used to formalities when you're a High Card. Particularly when you're a Face. There's a reason Johnny's stayed a Four.

And he'll even slip out of his chair and give her a quite extra-dramatic, flourishy bow in return for the drink.

It will earn a bright laugh out of her that he'll be quite familiar with.

"Ever the charmer, mm?"

Now sit back down and drink with her.

"Don't know any other way to be."

And he'll settle back in his seat, maybe scoot it a bit closer to her in the process. "So how're you taking it? Gonna start wearing a crown?"

Don't think she doesn't notice the scooting, Mr. Fiddler. Although she doesn't seem to mind it in the least.

Her shoulder lifts in a slight shrug at his first query, "Doing all right. Expect it'll get easier as things go on." And then a wry smile, "I'm thinking of wearing one covered in aquamarines. They're my birthstone, you know. Might as well flaunt them if I can."

"Flaunt if you've got it?"

He can understand that. And no, he's not looking, at all.

Well, maybe a little.

"I'm sure it will be the shiniest."

And if she catches him looking, well. Every woman likes to be appreciated by a decent guy every so often.

"D'you think the Diamonds will get jealous? I wouldn't want a war to break out over a crown."

[fiddlerjohnny]

"Not using diamonds," he points out. "I think you're safe."

They can't have a claim on every jewel, can they?

Well, they might want to.

They do have a claim on shiny, though, Which is the problem.

"Probably should still avoid out-sparkling them. Just in case."

She's not one for gestures of fabulousness or crowns much, anyways.

"What? You mean you don't want to go running around Diamond Castle in a rhinestone dress and crown sprinkling glitter everywhere?"

He grins. "I mean, it might be fun."

"How did you know? That's exactly my life dream. It's the only reason I took Queen in the first place."

A laugh as she shakes her head slightly, "I imagine they'd not take it very well, though."

The poor butler would probably have a heart attack.

"Nah, probably not," he agrees as he lifts his drink, "I'd still pay to see it, though."

Probably not the best idea for inter-Suit relations, unfortunately.

"Guess you could make it more of a private affair," he muses. "Except without the glitter. Gets everywhere."

"Well, I'm certain I could find a way to arrange for a private show, if you wanted it." A wink, "Although glitter is rather a pain to deal with, so there'll be some lacking in sparkle."

[fiddlerjohnny]

"This is probably where I'm supposed to say that your eyes would be sparkle enough or something, isn't it?"

He's upped the Southern drawl there. "'Fraid I'm not too good at that sorta thing."

A soft laugh, "I'm certain I'll survive."

She's not a Diamond, after all. Sparkling is hardly a terrible concern of hers.

"Shining might be more your thing, anyway, I bet."

Dropping the act a little, it'd seem.

"But not twinkling," he adds, with a grin.

"No, not twinkling."

Shining at least a little? Definitely maybe. She's not one for fabulousness, but she does like to look good.
