[OTA] A Sudden Bold and Unexpected Question

When King Theo had called her to his office, she had gone in fully anticipating he was going to tell her he was making her Head of Security at last. Which he did.

What she wasn't expecting was for him to offer the position of Queen. She'd been hesitant, at first, but as he explained his expectations and hopes for her and the rest of the Suit, she found herself feeling more comfortable as she recognized that they were the same. At the end, she'd accepted, and taken her leave to go get things in order in her office. Eventually, though, it properly sank in exactly what she'd committed to, and while she didn't regret it, she certainly needed a little bit of liquid courage to deal with the news.

Which is why, late in the evening, the new Queen of Hearts will make her way down to the Four Suits to indulge in a (surely well-deserved) drink.

She can. It's why she was picked. And it's okay if she can after a few stiff drinks and a little while with a shoulder on her hand, kneading just slightly with friendly concern.

"Do try to be, doll. And, what's more," and there's the briefest pause while she lifts her other hand to order two more of whatever Rowan's been drinking, "will keep trying to be."

Not like a Queen was in a vacuum. Or like the Face Cards were in a vacuum.

A small sigh, but one far more assured now than it may have been earlier.

"Thank you."

She doesn't need to actually say aloud that she's not exactly talking about the drink, does she?

Nothing needs to be said. They're both grown-up ladies here, after all. And grown-up ladies get to ching-ching with fresh glasses of booze.

"To the Hearts, then."

A wonderful course of action. Rowan approves entirely.

"To the Hearts."

Over the lips and past the gums, then.

"You just make one promise, yeah? You lean on us."

Which is, really, a promise to stay sane.

She just nods at first, eyes closing to revel properly in the taste of the drink before she responds, "I will, promise."

She's not one to think she can manage it all on her own, and she wants to be more available to them, anyways.

"There. Good start."

As is a calm drink with a friend. As is not letting go of the new Queen's shoulder for a while.

Everyone will be okay.
