[OTA] One Step Forward and Two Steps Back

Within the last several weeks, a lot had happened. People who were careful to keep their King in the loop were reporting the return of the last King of Spades, and monitoring his activities so that the Diamond Face Cards could be prepared for further upset.

Silas was less concerned with that than with the failings within his own Suit. He'd started to notice the strain between Säde and Avery even more, recently, and things weren't too much better between her and Cadogan. It was absolutely unacceptable.

But before he could talk to his Queen about it, he needed full information from his Ace and his Jack. There was enough unrest already as a direct result of Säde's uncontrolled actions, for which she had not yet truly answered.

All in due time.

He needed to talk to others, first.

"We're ticking along fairly well," Theo replied with a nod. "Everyone's settled in by now, thank goodness." Granted, the influx of small dogs and more cats were playing havoc with several sinuses throughout the Castle, but thankfully he'd had the foresight to order more Sudafed and Benedryl.

He did have a few...personnel issues, which was mostly the reason he'd opted to pay Silas a visit--he trusted the other king's judgment more than his own in such matters, after all--but he always enjoyed Silas's company, too.

"I'd ask the same, but..." he offered a consoling shrug, "...the rumor mill's working fairly well, so that might smack of irony, just now."

"Measures are being taken," he said dryly; he didn't need the rumor mill to know just how sideways things were at the moment. What he did need, however, was for tea to arrive and to forget, temporarily, about the small collection of fine wines and finer liquors in the cabinet behind his desk. It was there for particular occasions; simply being stressed was not one of those occasions.

Much as he wished it were.

"I'm glad to hear that things are functioning more smoothly for yours, though. It's good to know that things are fairly normal for at least one Suit right now."
