After the rage at his loss of the night before,
after talking with Lancelot, after walking for hours letting all of his thoughts on the matter run through his mind, after seeing the new spires of the "embassy" appear with the sunrise, and even after
his discussion with Chives, Julien has come to a long-overdue conclusion.
He came to the Deck following a story, the promise of a world where he belonged and a position that he'd been born for. He'd had no doubt that he belonged with the Spades, that he would become their Ace. That should have been enough. He
should have served the Suit.
But then there had been Athena's challenge and the beautiful, glorious Queen he'd watched there. He'd begun serving
her and not the Suit. And the Queen he'd followed for so long he now realizes...had never truly existed. Athena was only a mere mortal, after all.
Which leads him to David. No illusions this time. He's seen David bleed, he's marked the man himself. But David was the King the Suit needed and Julien was its Ace. That
would be enough.
Assuming David doesn't kill him on sight when Julien enters his office.
