[OTA] A lovely night

It's a bit impromptu but anyone wandering by the Green on this warm evening will find it lit by fairy lights everywhere and a few Deck musicians have set up in one corner and are taking requests.

And right out in the middle of things, Elani can be found dancing with anyone who offers.

[ooc: yes, blame Dancing with the Stars. And Qi. But anyway...come out and dance! With Elani...or otherwise. :)]

"Oh, I was practically born here," she grinned at him as they moved about the dance floor, "or it runs in my family, anyway. You should see my brother dance."

"You're brother is a better than you are?" He sounds rather skeptical. "I find that hard to believe. Clearly you're the best one out here right now.

I myself just started learning not that long ago. Not too much call for it back home."

"Better?" She appeared to think about it for a moment, "mmm...I guess you'd have to see us dance together and decide?" She nodded over to where Evan could be seen. "But thank you for the compliment!"

Another moment, then, "did you just get here recently, then?"

He looked in the direction where was looking and nodded politely in Evan's direction. It was only right to acknowledge him since they were technically talking about him.

"Perhaps." He smiled. "Or maybe I should just use the time to take notes. No shame in learning from the best."

He's doing his best to concentrate on the dance without taking his attention away from Elani.

He nodded. "About a year ago or so? Feels quicker than that. Time flies when everything gets upended."

"You flatter me, Elijah...."

And then, "a year ago? I'm sorry we haven't met sooner, then."

"Is it wrong to flatter a woman both pretty and talented?"

He shrugs.

"I've only started to feel truly comfortable wandering just for the sake of it these past few months. Clearly, I've just been going out at the wrong times."

"Some would say any flattery is wrong, " she grinned, "since it implies untruth."

"And clearly you have been doing so. ....which Suit are you in?"

He grinned.

"Perhaps. Than shall we go back to calling it a compliment instead? No implied falsehoods or pretensions to anything other than calling out a simple truth."

"But now I know better. And I found myself amongst the Diamonds. I suppose it's a bit like going to Hogwarts only not having a Sorting ceremony when you arrive."

"Then I thank you for your compliment." It was nicer that way, too.

"....Hogwarts?" Sorry, Elijah, she's not heard of or seen Harry Potter. "What is that?"

"Excellent, because nothing else was implied."

He takes a few moments to explain the nature of the series.

"I was just the right age when they first came out. Always wanted a wand. Thought it'd be rather exciting to hex some of my more annoying classmates."

"It sounds very interesting! I'll have to see if the library has it...maybe Eileen would like it, too." Lord knew, the littlest Ace spent far too much time reading histories and biographies, after all. There was something to be said for reading for simple pleasure.

"What would you have hexed them with, if you could?"

"If they don't, I'm sure someone can grab a copy next time they go off Deck. Hell, I know I've got the entire series back at home, tucked into my bookcase somewhere."

He pauses to consider.

"That's a good question! Not really sure. I don't think it'd be anything too severe. Public humiliation isn't really my thing an while they could be annoying, none were truly so awful as to deserve it."

"I'll ask my brother about it next time he goes," even if her smile falters a bit at the idea of Evan going off-Deck again.

"I don't know what I'd do either." Or if she'd do anything...there were very few people Elani would ever want to punish.

"Does he go often?" He asks, curious, but he will back off if she feels he's prying. "Have you ever been."

"I think it's one of those things you fantasize about because it's a harmless enough way to blow off steam without actually doing something you might regret later. Those kind of coping mechanisms are always good."

"Pretty regularly...I mean...it's his job." She shrugs a little and dismisses it, "me? Oh, I've been just a couple of times. Victor took me once to Rome," her eyes sparkled, remembering, "to the opera. It was lovely! And Lancelot and Eileen and I," that would be the Jack and Ace of Clubs, respectively, "went to Disneyworld some months ago...that was a lot of fun too!" And of course there's something in her tone that softened when she spoke Lancelot's name. He might not be there at the dance that night, but he was never far from Elani's thoughts.

"What's he do, if you don't mind me asking?"

He smiles at the mention of Disneyland.

"I haven't been there in absolute ages. I loved it as a kid though. Did you get to try the Mickey-shaped ice cream bars? Delicious!"

"Oh he...gets things...for the Suit? Things we can't make here."

She's grinning again, "ice cream was definitely on the menu."

He dropped that line of questioning.

"I hope you didn't try it before going on the Teacups."

He still had embarrassing memories about that particular combination.

"Why?" She cocks her head to the side, then thinks about it, "...oh. You didn't, did you?"

Oops.

He flushes ever so slightly.

"Let's say that those teacups probably spun a wee bit faster than was good."

He brightened.

"I did get a new t-shirt out of the deal. Wore it to death, if I remember correctly."
