I Thought You Were Joking When You Said You'd Never Leave

Dissatisfied is an understatement. Argine is bound to hold on to her rank for as long as she's permitted to hold it, regardless of resultant detriment to the Suit. Tegan is gone. And regardless of how well-fitted for the job he may be, Pierre knows that Elisha would sooner see Eileen be both Ace and Jack than put him in that position that certainly needs to be filled. It doesn't matter how good he is at what he does at his King's command -- both on the record and off; as long as Elisha is in office, Pierre never will be higher than Ten.

So he's taking advantage of an extra opportunity to train both body and mind, working hand-to-hand with the best fighter he could reach on short notice. The man is smaller than him, but he's still fast and packs a hell if a punch. It's a hard workout for both of them. When the Six taps out so that he can shower and prepare for his shift, nothing has changed; there is no winner or loser, only two men drenched in their own seat, and Pierre's head is a but clearer. He's still frustrated, but it's under his control, even though he'll likely be snappish in response and barking commands rather than calmly delivering them today.

Well, he probably would, but he can attempt a smile. "You'll never know or grow past your weaknesses if you have no one to physically point them out to you, Miss McCartney.

"I don't think I need to be a fighter," she shrugs.

Isn't knowing the basics of defending herself good enough?

He shrugs in return, tossing the towel aside. "That's your prerogative, of course. I'm just offering options."

"Thank you for that, then. I appreciate the offer."

Because it never hurts to be polite.

"Any time." A pause, and then he tilts his head. "What training do you do, then, if not in a physically confrontational manner?" Just curious.

Elani laughs a little, "it's more for exercise, for me." This dancer's physique didn't just happen by magic, "than training for fighting someone."

So though she's learned things for self-defense, a lot of what she's learned in the way of martial arts is practiced individually.

Dancer's physiques happen by dancing and by fighting. Very little else will train those particular muscles to hold that particular shape.

But. As long as she's working the muscles, he'll let it be.

"So the difference between hitting pads as opposed to actually hitting people." Hey, he can do that, and she'll still sweat harder than she's sweat in a while.

Still, it's her decision, not his.

"Well," she says, "yes, basically?"

Was he really offering to stay here for that?

Of course he was. It's hard to punch pads if there's no one to hold them, after all. And, again, having someone to point out the weaknesses so that they can be corrected.

"Come on. Stretch out and let's go, Miss McCartney."

That's what the practice dummies were for, but she won't turn him down. It can't hurt to have a second set of eyes, can it? Even if they're intimidating.

So she'll nod and begin her warming up.

And while she's warming up, he'll down water like he should be doing, and then he'll find the hand pads. "Can you wrap your own hands, or do you need help with it?"

Not mocking not mocking not mocking.

Oh, she'd got the lessons after the last time she'd gone up against a punching bag without wrapping them. No worries there.

So she just smiles slightly and nods, "my brother's a good teacher."

And once she's warmed up and wrapped up she'll move closer so he can see, "how's that?"

Evan is indeed a good teacher.

He reaches out to check her hands, trying her wrists before nodding. "Very good. Your brother did well," he agrees.

Then, on go the pads. "We'll start slow, get you used to the movement." Not that he thinks her incapable, but. If one isn't used to it, it can be awkward and somewhat difficult.
