It's that time of year. Time to field last minute questions, figure out routes for trips, have IDs made and transcripts printed and finalize the decisions of the 18-year-olds in the Deck. It could be worse, Edie can't help but think. There weren't that many kids in each class in the Deck, after all. There could be so many more.

But this number of students committing to colleges is still a hassle, is still something that makes Evangeline Huntly very stressed. Which is why she'll be sitting on a bench in Town, grumbling to herself as she goes through files.

But not this file. Nope. This file is clearly for Cynric. For him to sift through and hum over and nod his head knowingly at with much in the way of 'hum hum hum.' Because that, surely, will not send her into anything like hysterics.

And if it does, it'll be hilarious.

"I see this one's got both the letter 'X' and the letter 'C.' Fascinating."

[heartvestment]

"Cynric, normally I would be all ready for the shit you like to pull, but please, man." She's begging you. "Don't do this to me today."

[hamelinic]

"Don't do what?" His tone stays completely flippant, although he does seat himself on the bench rather than wandering off with the papers. Does hold the file closed where she can snatch it back if she's so intent on being no fun. "Be charming and affable?"

[heartvestment]

"I know you better than that," she says, leaning to kiss him on the cheek as she takes the file back. "You couldn't be turn off your charm and affability if you tried."

[hamelinic]

And air-kisses to you too, pretty lady. As well as perfectly lazy, tuneless hums, his body slumping contentedly into a slouch on the bench. "What's the papers, then? Something interesting?"

[heartvestment]

"You know, I don't imagine that a Joker would find the formalities of college and higher education very interesting, but maybe that's just me."

[hamelinic]

...boo. Booing starts now. Actual proper booing. Booing and throwing little bits of paper from his pockets at her face. Boo encouraging people to go make brain-smarts.

"You look like you're having a fantabulous day, cousin dear." Don't mind the sole bastion of testosterone in the Huntly family. He just closed up the store for lunch, which he's going to spend...not eating. He's not hungry, but he'll hear about it if he doesn't close up the store for lunch.

"College entrance days are here again, yippee?"

[heartvestment]

"Don't you fantabulous me," she orders, waggling a finger up at him. "And stop with that yippee-ing too. I hate it. I hate all of it. College sucks."

[unsungheart]

"It's fun once you get there," Dillon tells her. "If that makes you feel any better. You're bringing joy, education, and sex into their lives. Oh, and Spring Break. That's a good one too." He has very fond memories of Spring Break, really.

[heartvestment]

"Don't look so happy, bucko. Spring Break sex doesn't count if it's rebound sex," she teases, glancing up at him.

[unsungheart]

"Sure it does, if you're the one rebounding." He can joke about it now, because honestly Riley was a lot of years ago now. "Is there a light at the end of the tunnel, at least? Do you need my stellar...no, actually, you're right, my skill set is completely unrelated to paperwork. Damn."

Except, of course, all the paperwork associated with managing a business. Let's not mention that.

"At the end of next week, it'll be better. At least... I'm hoping." Her lips twist as she looks down at her files. "I'm just trying to avoid the kids for an hour now. I need my own free time to, y'know?"

Here is, at least, someone who could empathize with both her dislike of files and college all at once.

"Thought people with that much paper to go through did it indoors."

Where a stray whisp of a breeze couldn't make your day much more interesting.

[heartvestment]

"I'll drive myself crazy if I stay cooped up in my office any longer." Pause. "Assuming that I'm not already crazy."

[alwaysmessedup]

"You're here, you're probably crazy."

He smiles slightly. "Seems like everybody has it, anyway."

[heartvestment]

"True, true." She sighs. "So what are you doing out here? Obviously not grading, I'm guessing."

[alwaysmessedup]

"I am. Walking. Strolling. I hear it's good exercise for a nice day...right?"

He grins a little, "trust me, they don't want me teaching anybody."

[heartvestment]

Grumble. "It's a nice day for getting all of this done without students pounding at your door, that's what it is."

Good time to lean her arms over the back of the bench? Not a good time? Probably a good time. Look, Edie. Cookies.

"What's with the long face?"

"These are for me, right? At least one?" She's grabbing anyway. "College days. It sucks."

[oneirophiliac]

"You can have half, you look like you could use it." She picks out one for herself, crunching loudly. "Must be hard enough, without all the fake addresses and IDs and all of that."

[heartvestment]

"You're too good, Annie," she says through a mouthful of her cookie, wiping the crumbs from her mouth. "I'm telling you - I was definitely not as worked up about college when I was a kid as these guys are. It's too much."

[oneirophiliac]

"I don't see what's the big deal, anyway. At least half of them are gonna come right back here, and no one asks for qualifications unless it's super-specialised. Like, I dunno, medicine or something."

[heartvestment]

"And yet, they all apply to Yale and Harvard and Cornell and then cry to me when they haven't heard back yet. It's a hard knock life, Annie." She has to shake her head, tsking a little.
