It's that time of year. Time to field last minute questions, figure out routes for trips, have IDs made and transcripts printed and finalize the decisions of the 18-year-olds in the Deck. It could be worse, Edie can't help but think. There weren't that many kids in each class in the Deck, after all. There could be so many more.

But this number of students committing to colleges is still a hassle, is still something that makes Evangeline Huntly very stressed. Which is why she'll be sitting on a bench in Town, grumbling to herself as she goes through files.

"Cynric, normally I would be all ready for the shit you like to pull, but please, man." She's begging you. "Don't do this to me today."

"Don't do what?" His tone stays completely flippant, although he does seat himself on the bench rather than wandering off with the papers. Does hold the file closed where she can snatch it back if she's so intent on being no fun. "Be charming and affable?"

"I know you better than that," she says, leaning to kiss him on the cheek as she takes the file back. "You couldn't be turn off your charm and affability if you tried."

And air-kisses to you too, pretty lady. As well as perfectly lazy, tuneless hums, his body slumping contentedly into a slouch on the bench. "What's the papers, then? Something interesting?"

"You know, I don't imagine that a Joker would find the formalities of college and higher education very interesting, but maybe that's just me."

...boo. Booing starts now. Actual proper booing. Booing and throwing little bits of paper from his pockets at her face. Boo encouraging people to go make brain-smarts.

"Cynric!" So much protesting and batting at him. "Stop that! This is my job, you know."

"I thought you had a better job." Or maybe, in his mind, he just blocked out things that were silly about people. Like that they would be such normal, reasonable people and still have such a boo-hiss profession.

"Apologies for disappointing you, then," she says with a grin. "I do work occasionally in my parents' record studio?"

"Occasionally." So offended. You have so offended the Joker woman it is not even hilarious. Look at this offense. "To occasionally music is to occasionally breathe."

"I music all the time!" she protests. "Just... I only work in music occasionally."

"Prove it. Right now." Where's the music in your ridiculous sitting-here-with-papers, woman. Where.

"The... music of the Earth." ... Lame save. But. She pulls out her MP3 player, so... good save?

Disapprove. Disapprove and disgruntlement.

And also suspicious poking at this player of MP3s. He trusts them not at all.

Still disapprove.

Make it be fiddle music.

Thank god Edie gets the Free Song of the Week every time it changes. Who knew there was fiddle music on iTunes?

...slight approval. But. Still such grumpiness. "And why d'you not just do this? Why've you got t' do all the letters too?"

"Because I need money to support myself and I'm not good enough at music to get paid for it." The sad, sad truth.

"And you need money to support yourself because...?"

Had no one taught her to steal things? Had she not been raised to forage properly? Ridiculous.

"... things cost money, Cynric." Pause. "Or, at least... they do in the non-Joker world. Unfortunately."

"It's not about the money. We don't need your money."

She sees where this is going, doesn't she.

"What d'you actually need to live you can't earn outside of the cash economy, hm?"
