It's Swing Time~

It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out Elisha's motivation for organizing - or, honestly, delegating the organization of - a semi-formal dance party. Lucinda had suggested a ball, with stars in her eyes. She probably had already picked out ballgowns and themes in her head when Elisha had nixed the thing and - in a moment of desperation, with the memory of the swing-themed Fox wedding still in his head - suggest a Spring Swing, instead.

Everyone had run with it, and Elisha was pleased to say it had come out well. He was even more pleased to say that he didn't have to wear a suit, even if he stepped out into the lantern-lit gardens in everything but the tie. He paused near the raised dais provided for dancing and gave the small band the signal to start up the music before he attempted to fade back in the crowd. Not that that ever worked.

"Let the games begin," he murmured to no one in particular as he picked up a glass of champagne off a tray.

"Dresses are important to thirteen year olds I hear." Addy said, shrugging a little as he looked over to Eileen. "She looks nice, though. She looks happy, too."

"Apparently they are," Elisha said. He kind of missed when Eileen's were of tertiary interest to her, but he imagined those days were gone. "She does look happy. She hasn't really been, lately."

"Are you claiming to never known a girl when you were 13?" Addy asked, almost cracking a smile as he looked over at Elisha. "Don't try to think about it too much, you'll never figure it out." As for her looking happy, well....about time, really. He was happier for seeing it too.

"Not that many." He went to a boys' school, and was an only child. Of course, he'd known a few. He wasn't looking forward to the discovery of lipgloss, either. "I'll probably never figure it out anyway."

"You were a bloody deprived child, then. Maybe I should get you a book on'm. A hundred things to expect when raising a teenage girl." He said, offering a slight smile to Elisha as adjusted his stance and looked back at Eileen.

"Suspect you'll figure it all out eventually."

"I won't argue with you." Except, well, he wasn't entirely deprived. But Addy probably knows that. "I wouldn't say no to an instruction manual, I have to admit."

He slanted Addy a look. "You have a lot of faith in me." Well, when it came to teenage girls, at least.

"Oh, faith is a necessary evil when it comes to leaders. Don't worry." He assured Elisha, clapping the King of Clubs on the shoulder. "What can you do, really?"

"Absolutely nothing," Elisha said. "Well. Maybe not entirely nothing, but it makes me feel better to bitch about it."

At least he was honest about it, right?

"Are you going to actually dance tonight?"
