It's Swing Time~

It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out Elisha's motivation for organizing - or, honestly, delegating the organization of - a semi-formal dance party. Lucinda had suggested a ball, with stars in her eyes. She probably had already picked out ballgowns and themes in her head when Elisha had nixed the thing and - in a moment of desperation, with the memory of the swing-themed Fox wedding still in his head - suggest a Spring Swing, instead.

Everyone had run with it, and Elisha was pleased to say it had come out well. He was even more pleased to say that he didn't have to wear a suit, even if he stepped out into the lantern-lit gardens in everything but the tie. He paused near the raised dais provided for dancing and gave the small band the signal to start up the music before he attempted to fade back in the crowd. Not that that ever worked.

"Let the games begin," he murmured to no one in particular as he picked up a glass of champagne off a tray.

There's someone more than a head shorter than Victor he should also be giving wide berth. But today is clearly not at all his lucky day.

At least this was a party. At least there were lots of other people around. At least this probably wouldn't be prolonged.

"...you're here."

"That so surprising?" He says, with a plate of food in his hand and after just having swallowed an hors d'oeuvre. "It's kind've a public event, isn't it?"

So you can't kick him out for being here, Eileen. Nyahnyah.

"It seems awfully social for a maladjusted profligate."

No, she will never learn about ten cent words. Or, at any rate, she'll never adjust them for him.

She gets a long stare. Maladjusted he's heard of. That last one? Not a clue, but he can at least guess it isn't complimentary.

"I'm not exactly a hermit y'know."

"No, but you can't possibly consider yourself to have a net positive on social interaction."

Well. Maybe that wasn't charitable. Maybe other people found him endearing.

"Are you just skulking, or are you actually enjoying yourself?"

"These little sausage things are amazing." He'll even sort of push his plate in her direction if she wants to try one. "You had 'em yet?"

That's a yes to the fun question, in case she was wondering.

She caught that. She's not the idiot she thinks he is, after all.

"...you came for the sausages?"

Not that. She won't be trying one. Since he's offering.

"Well. Free food. Can't pass that up, can you?"

Nevermind the details where Suit members essentially get free food from the Castle kitchens if they live there. Well, assuming one actually does the work to deserve it. Which he's been managing to duck rather successfully.

He'll have to accept the arch of her brow as she munches on the sausage.

"You know it's really not that hard to earn this sort of thing."

"Wouldn't know nothing about that."

Okay, there he's just pretending he's more of a dumbass than he actually is. "Never earned nothing before."

"...am I meant to be impressed or feel sorry?" She isn't certain she can manage either.
