[Still unsure.] Elani, Jack of Clubs.

She's trying it out, how it sounds. Not entirely sure about the new title or what it's going to mean just yet. But maybe you hear her giving it a go or she's just informed you (if you're family or a close friend) of what Elisha's just told her.

The Festival that the Hearts have been planning for a month is finally here, and it’s a sight to be seen. The Green seems transformed into a haunted grove strung with lights, and throngs of people in costumes are seen taking part in all kinds of festivities. In the center of the Green is a dance floor, though the music blaring from the speakers is much more modern than usual, with the Addams Family theme tune showing up every so often.

The lovebirds of the Deck can’t miss out on the romantic hayride, while the more risk-taking might be interested in the haunted trail that has been set up. But besides bobbing for apples and carving pumpkins, the main attraction during the night are the two huge projectors and movie screens set up on opposite sides of the Green. One shows kid-friendly Halloween movies while the other one has a film choice that’s just a bit more terrifying.

Waiters circle around the Green offering food and drinks to all the guests, while separate tables offer warm food straight from the Hearts kitchens. There’s plenty of seating for those who just want to sit down and take in the night for a moment. And of course, there are bowls full of candy for children and adults alike to partake in – though they probably should be careful not to eat too much.

Pierre is contemplative today. Of course, even in his contemplation, he's quietly annoyed, but he's still contemplative. And apparently, balance is today's topic.

Or, more notably, the current lack of it.

Well, the birthday flowers were lovely, at least. Pete gave them to Elisha along with a note from Argine asking to see him at his earliest convenience, and Elisha was pretty sure what that was about as well.

There was no announcement, but he told Pete to get the word around. No one would be terribly surprised, considering what Argine's health had been like since Andrew's death, but the timing...well, it could have been better.

Then again, he was already looking for a new Jack. He might as well look for a new Queen at the same time.

Elisha settled back at his desk and started to go through the work that had passed over his desk in the last four days. For now, at least, the Clubs were essentially in his hands.

Dissatisfied is an understatement. Argine is bound to hold on to her rank for as long as she's permitted to hold it, regardless of resultant detriment to the Suit. Tegan is gone. And regardless of how well-fitted for the job he may be, Pierre knows that Elisha would sooner see Eileen be both Ace and Jack than put him in that position that certainly needs to be filled. It doesn't matter how good he is at what he does at his King's command -- both on the record and off; as long as Elisha is in office, Pierre never will be higher than Ten.

So he's taking advantage of an extra opportunity to train both body and mind, working hand-to-hand with the best fighter he could reach on short notice. The man is smaller than him, but he's still fast and packs a hell if a punch. It's a hard workout for both of them. When the Six taps out so that he can shower and prepare for his shift, nothing has changed; there is no winner or loser, only two men drenched in their own seat, and Pierre's head is a but clearer. He's still frustrated, but it's under his control, even though he'll likely be snappish in response and barking commands rather than calmly delivering them today.

Well Pierre was in his office, just him and you, when suddenly it dawned on him: this story's nothing new. But do give him more deets and embellish. Really. He'd love to hear it all.
